Advice From The Comic Hack 155 – The South Of The Border Piercing Trouble Edition

Just for “funsies” today I’m going to give you two quotes, each absolutely pertinent to the question submitted by today’s Darling Reader and my dick-joke-laden response. Just to crank-up the difficulty level, I’m going to have both people I quote have last names that begin with the letter “Z”.  Zig Ziglar – With both first AND last names beginning with the 26th letter of our alphabet was an author, salesman and motivational speaker. He warned us “Be careful not to compromise what you want most for what you want now” Mark Zuckerberg could only manage to end his LAST name with what the Brits call a “zed” but what’s the likelihood that slacker will ever amount to a hill of beans? He tells us “The biggest risk is not taking any risk… In a world that is changing really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks” As to how “Compromise” and “Taking Risks” applies to a question from a Darling Reader desperate for advice when her boyfriend desires getting a particular piece of jewelry; well I guess you’re just gonna have to read on and discover this for yourself.    Dear Comic Hack, I have a question for you. My boyfriend is wanting to get his “boy parts” pierced and though it might be cute to have “Doc Johnson” accessorized, I’m really not crazy about the idea. I’ve heard horror stories about things going HORRIBLY wrong and quite frankly, I don’t want to have to be involved in that kind of emergency room trip for either of us. I’ve tried talking to him about it and he just laughs it off. Yours truly, One scared kitty Finally a question Your Humble Comic Hack can sink his teeth into. Wait. That didn’t come out right… but then again, neither did I. (Two snaps and a big “Hey!”). I’m going to try to answer this Thorny? Sticky? Loaded? Ummm, Complicated question without it sinking into a quagmire (not the Giggity kind) of ever-worse innuendos, but it’s hard. It’s so hard. You should know that there is a veritable cornucopia of different piercings out there. Some of them are purely esthetic – if that’s your bag –...

The Comic Hacks Guide To Entertainment – Mission Impossible Rogue Nation (The Movie Review)

The Comic Hacks Guide to Entertainment  This week’s diversion: MISSION IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE NATION ________________________________________________________________     So after the Fuster-cluck that was Fantastic Four it was a delight, a veritable Cornucopia of Wonders to watch Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation. Since I’m on my way out to a show in the Twin Cities – this will be a brief-and scattered review. Point One: GREAT previews before the movie. Though honestly; having a preview for SPECTRE right before what I presumed-to-be at the time a weaker film, seemed like an unfortunate choice. Point Two: We’ve all seen the Plane Stunt from the previews and we all know from the press tour (and more) that Tom Cruise actually strapped himself to the outside of a cargo plane to get the shot. Wow! They cleverly had this stunt at the very beginning of the film. This had the added benefit of giving us functionally  two opening numbers. At least one of which also involved the classical Mission Impossible theme song. It’s all a bit formulaic – but as classic coke discovered long ago – sometimes you need to really NOT mess with a formula that works. Point Three: This movie was so exciting that I found myself repeatedly holding my breath. There was great chemistry among the cast – and Much has been said about Rebecca Ferguson and I’ll add my own input in a bit. Suffice to say for now; Where did she come from and are there more like her there? And action. Wow. Chase after chase after chase. Hell; it’s ALL action. Point Four: Man I love Simon Peg. He was wonderfully utilized here – I even managed to overlook the blatant Dell Computer commercial due to his charm. Point Five: I mentioned the cast right? perfectly cast, wonderfully performed across the board. Alec Baldwin is one of Ethan Hunt’s adversaries in this. He was on point as always. of special note was his speech in the third act that really cemented the Ethan Hunt legend. Point Six: Rebecca Ferguson – Holy POOP in a sexy, yellow, dress Rebecca Ferguson. I’m a huge fan of her as I am a huge fan of Ronda Rousey and they obviously cast her with the MMA champ in mind....

Advice From The Comic Hack 154 – The Troubled Friend In A Break-up And A Surprising Solution Edition

Grecian genius and philosophical figurehead Socrates tells us “Be slow to fall into friendship; but when thou art in, continue firm & constant” Well that’s just GREAT braniac! But what should we do if our friend is being an idiot? The Socratic ideal of Platonic friendship – Editor’s note: I see what you did there –  involves commitment, constancy and devotion. We understand and applaud the ideal. But what should you do when your friend has crossed the line? How long should you put-up with a friend who refuses to help themselves? My solution is going to surprise you as a Darling Reader asks me what she should do and how long she must support a friend who has had a bad break-up if that friend isn’t helping herself. No really – my solution will shock you. Rather than ask you to Share, tweet and whatnot today’s column I need to ask you to PLEASE submit questions for future columns to my NEW ADDRESS: advicequestions@comichacksguide.com I need some really inspiring ones (like this one I’m answering today) so I don’t suffer from writer’s block again next time!    My Comic Hack, I have a friend who has just gone through a bad break up and is now being kind of pathetic. I want to be a good friend and support her in this tough time, but she’s obsessive about her ex. All she talks about is him and she keeps making excuses for his horrible behavior both during the relationship and now during the break up. I’ve lost all patience with her nonsense especially since he was a “Class A dirt bag”. He cheated on her, lied to her and was manipulative during their time together and now that they are apart he continues to twist her emotionally. She has even gone so far as to say that she “Feels bad that he’s become so isolated.” Does she not understand that his atrocious actions are what brought about his friends (and hers) abandoning him? She’s normally such a strong woman and now she’s become a whiny, weakling.  Any advice?  First off – I want to thank you for answering my email so I could get a little more clarification...
